2016 Poem a Day Challenge #2

April is National Poetry Writing Month! I’m using prompts from Writer’s Digest and Kelli Russell Agodon’s list. Occasionally, I may use my own prompt ideas as well.

Today’s Prompt:

Write a poem with long lines about God or the universe or the horizon of the ocean.

Firstborn

Adam, if he was in the image of God must certainly have been born a man, fully formed.
A realization of musculoskeletal efficacy, a machine of all things earth and elemental,
hewn of slate and soil, towering, a glistening monolith of power begetting power,
sculpted in cosmic art supreme and spitting virility, an untiring gardener
who was the envy of all species for his taut frame and incised demeanor
kind and terrible, unmistakable in his dominion, a Man, and magnetic
the only one of his kind in all of time
underived.
